La Serenne is a superlative example of the ability of Syrah to express itself so distinctly and specifically in one site. It comes from Boushey Vineyard, the highest altitude and latest harvested of the four Syrahs we make. It was planted using cuttings from Red Willow Vineyard, which makes up another of our Syrahs, La Côte Patriarche.  We’ve walked these rows with Dick Boushey for almost 20 years now and still are taken aback by the wild, seductive wine that emerges from each vintage.

93-95 Points (barrel score) – Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2021 Syrah La Serenne is another terrific Syrah. Smoky, meaty, leathery, and peppery notes all define the aromatics, and it has a terrific core of red and black fruits, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a fresh, focused, lengthy style that’s going to age gracefully."

93-95 Points (barrel score) – Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
"Beginning with notes of blackberry skin and baked earth, 2021 Syrah la Serenne is fresh and slightly shy in the glass with subtle notes of dusty purple flowers. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is initially subdued before unpacking and uncoiling in the mouth and should perform fantastically once it’s released toward the end of the year. The wine continues to reveal more complexities before ending with a mineral-laced finish."

    94 Points – James Suckling
"Black pepper, dark plums, cocoa powder, rosemary stems and black truffles on the nose. Deep and brooding, with a medium to full body and sleek tannins. A little reserved for now. Drink from 2024."
